Rebecca & Roger were out with me today on a one day navigation course. They have recently started hillwalking in Scotland and wanted some confidence and skills to navigate confidently and safely around the mountains. We headed onto the Cairngorm plateau after looking at the various maps that are available including the excellent Harvey's/BMC 1:40,000. There was some light cloud cover early on in the day but the strong, warm SW cleared the clouds and we had glorious views, we were wanting some cloud cover for more realistic navigation. But the plateau, even in clear skies is still featureless in areas. It was a glorious day to be out, bags of late summer sunshine and beautiful colours.
